Class Page - Year 5, Miss Covell

Year 5 looked at how we hear sounds, how sounds are changed and how we can make different sounds.  Putting all this together we designed and made musical instruments.  Here are some examples.

Year 5 have been looking at Ancient Greek Myths. We found out that they often have a hero, mythical beast, problem and the Gods. We have written a myth as a class with all of these things in it. We hope you like it.

Lulu and the Scorpidon

Lulu was driving a sky porter, over the tropical sea, to her father. On the way they saw lots of beautiful waterfalls and rivers flowing gently. Birds were gliding through the air past the sky porter. The sky porter was suspended over the golden rocks insight of misty mountain. She stopped at the wonderful sight.

As Lulu walked in to her fathers’ lab she could hear crunching. She walked further into the room and saw a big, dark, shadow then could hear drops hitting the floor. She smelt fresh blood as she walked nearer to the shadow. The crunching got louder as she turned round slowly. Before she knew it Lulu heard her father shouting for help.  She quickly tip toed to the cupboard that held the torches and grabbed one.  Lulu found that her dad had been chopped in half by the scorpidons’ claws. It was the most terrifying sight she had ever seen. Lulu heard a smash, and saw a hole in the wall. Lulu ran to the hole, to see if she could see it.

As she knew there was a brilliant sword shop down the street Lulu decided to run down there. When Lulu got there she decided to pick a sword it was covered in sparkling diamonds. She turned round and headed to the shop keeper as she got there he said that it was too dangerous and too much money. Lulu gave him the money and ran out. As Lulu was running, she accidently pressed her thumb on something that made some of the diamonds fly out. The diamonds faded away and Lulu thought she had broken the sword. Before she knew it, Athena jumped out with sparkling glitter all over her. “Who are you?” Lulu asked with amazement.

“I am Athena, the goddess of war. Why are you crying? It’s alright.”

“But my swords broken and I paid £50 for that and now I can’t kill the scorpidon.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, it’s not broken. When I fly back into the sword, the diamonds will also fly back on.”

Lulu jumped into her sky porter and warmed the engine up. Back at her father’s lab she looked on the computer to see if he had any research on where the scorpidon lived. Once she knew where the scorpidon lived, in the dark, cold cave, she climbed back into her sky porter and started on her journey.

When she got to the cave, Lulu tip toed very quietly out of the sky porter with her special sword in hand. She was feeling a little bit nervous because she had to defeat the creature. Her hand was shaking and her mind went blank then she remembered that the special button would bring Athena to her. She slid along the wall to make sure that the monster wouldn’t see her. Lulu walked further into the monsters cave and saw him sleeping. As she walked closer to the scorpidon, she raised her sword. Suddenly the scorpidon awoke with a mighty roar. Lulu plunged the sword in the scorpidon’s head and it went straight through and came out the other side covered in blood. A stream of blood flowed to her feet. The scorpidon stood up and, taking its last breath, fell back down again. Lulu went to the scorpidon and she said “this is for my father,” as she stabbed it in the heart.

Lulu ran back out of the cave and got into the sky porter. She started the engine up and she made her way back to her fathers’ lab. When she got back there she went to the room where her father was laid on the floor. Tears started to drop from Lulu’s face. She sat in her Dad’s old chair and remembered the times they had spent together as she curled up and fell asleep.
