The purpose of the Governing Body

The governing body has a legal responsibility to conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school and work in partnership with the Head Teacher and other school staff to achieve this.

What the Governing Body Does

The Governing Body plays a critical role within the school. Whilst the Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school, it is up to the governors to take on responsibility for the strategic, or long-term, direction of the school. This includes many varied tasks, from budgeting to monitoring standards.

The Governing Body is made up of volunteers drawn from the "stakeholders" of the school. There are, therefore, representatives of the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, Local Authority (i.e. Bracknell Forest Council), parents and the community on the Governing Body. Each has an equal say in matters regarding the school.

All the governors meet once a term at the Full Governors' Meeting, but each serves on one or more of the various committees that meet as required. These include the Finance Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Accommodation Committee and the Marketing and PR Committee as well as several others. The minutes of these meetings are available through the School Office. (Please note that occasionally some parts of the meetings are confidential, when we discuss individual staff or pupil matters, for instance, and as such are not available.)

Governors also attend school and school events regularly, as well as training events to help improve their skills.
