Black Lives Matter

Parents have asked us about they can support their children to understand the ‘Black Lives Matter’ marches and demonstrations held in recent weeks.  Many children have questions and there is a real interest in this topic as was demonstrated by their response to the recent assembly on ‘anti-discrimination’ and Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

We sent home a copy of 'A Parent’s Guide to Black Lives Matter’ which includes resources, activities ant tips which we hope you found useful.  If you did not receive it,  you can download it here.

As Will Smith and Roger Mills (CEO and Chair of the Greenshaw Learning Trust) recently wrote, “it is not enough to simply not be racist, we must all seek to educate ourselves about what is happening now, what has happened in the past and what we can all do to tackle injustice and discrimination in all its forms.”

All of us at Crown Wood Primary School will continue to work hard to actively promote and reinforce the value of equality through the school’s values, the Rights Respecting Schools (RRS) programme and International Primary Curriculum (IPC).  However, we also know that we can do more, and we can improve.   We are committed to that improvement.
