Home Learning

At Crown Wood the aim is for pupils to become independent and take individual responsibility for learning. 

As a result, we have reviewed the approach to home learning across the whole school and made some changes to the arrangements. This letter is to keep you up to date with the changes and expectations across different year groups.

The home learning set will:

  • extend, support and broaden the learning experience through reinforcement, revision, guidance and direction.
  • develop transferable skills and a long term strategy for future learning.
  • encourage parents, pupils and the school to work in partnership to promote the learning experience as an enjoyable one.
  • ensure parents/carers have a clear understanding about expectations from themselves and the pupil.

These are set out below:

Reception and Key Stage 1

New sound a day phonics recap sheet (when appropriate).

Reading every day once secure with phonics.

Topic talk based ‘show and tell’ session on a rota basis.

Optional reading challenges to complete throughout each half term.

Holiday challenges to complete on Tapestry e.g. reading in an unusual place, shape hunt etc

Year 1

Spelling/Phonics

Friday  

Reading with an adult 5 x per week (10mins). Reading record to be signed.

Maths Activity grid (given out half termly) - pick one activity to be completed each day. Monitored each Friday.

Year 2

Reading with an adult 5 x per week (10- 15 mins). Reading record to be signed.

Times tables (2s, 3s, 5s and 10s) 5 x a week

To be secure with these by the end of Year 2

Maths Activity grid (given out half termly)- pick one activity to be completed each week (to be handed in at school on any day of the week)

 

 

Key Stage 2

To be secure with these by the end of Year 3

Half Termly Activity grid 40 points (to be handed in at school on any day of the week)

Year 4

Spellings

Friday

Reading with an adult 3 x per week (10- 15 mins) and independently

3 x per week. Reading record to be signed.

Times tables (7s, 9s, 11s, 12s) 5 x per week (differentiated)

To be secure with all times tables by the end of Year 4 (up to 12x12 and all corresponding division facts).

Half Termly Activity grid 60 points (to be handed in at school on any day of the week)

Year 5
